Richard Wagner (1813-1883)
Richard Wagner was born 1813. He is one of the most known composer of the 19th century. He is the creator of the “music drama”. He presented the poetry as the begetting and the music as the bearing principle. He was a revolutionary of the opera and joined Teutonic mythology with musical genius. With the music of Wagner, the musical Romantic reached its zenith. Operas like “Der fliegende Holländer” “Tannhäuser”or “Lohengrin” have been the height of the romantic opera. With his opera trilogy “The Ring of the Nibelung”, Wagner’s idea, the creation of a musical complete art work in the meaning of the unification of all arts, succeeded entirely. King Ludwig II of Bavaria was one of the most enthusiastic followers of Richard Wagner. He loved the music of Wagner like no other and promoted him generously. In 1871 Wagner moved together with his wife Cosima, a daughter of Liszt, to Bayreuth. One year late he laid the foundation-stone for an opera house in Bayreuth. The famous Bayreuth “Festival House” was inaugurated in 1876 with the first performance of the complete opera tetra logy of the “Ring”. Since that time the “Bayreuth Opera Festival”, which is held every year in August, is the yearly zenith of the opera world and is visited by highest prominence from around the world. The opera tetra logy “the Ring of the Nibelung” is the most extensive work of Wagner. The music, “the Ride of the Valkyries”, which we have chosen for our Richard Wagner Teddy Bear, belongs to “the Valkyries”, the second part of “the Ring”. It is one of the most famous motifs of Wagner’s compositions.1833 Wagner passed away in Venice
